Altria Client Services’ role is to provide high-quality services to the Altria family of companies. The Regulatory Science department’s role is to lead the development and execution of regulatory science strategies to advance Altria’s business goals. We are currently seeking a Behavioral Scientist to join our department in Richmond, VA.

You will be a critical resource in supporting our regulatory research practice conducting consumer behavior research to support FDA engagement on behalf of Altria’s tobacco operating companies. Consumer behavior research includes secondary analyses of national survey data sets and behavioral research and survey design, conduct, analysis, and interpretation.


* Contribute to the design of behavioral research studies, including the development of protocols, creation of surveys, evaluation of statistical analysis plans, interpretation of data and findings, and review of study reports.
* Contribute directly to FDA and external scientific engagement through written FDA responses, presentations at scientific meetings, and publications in peer-reviewed journals.
* Apply established scientific principles for secondary analyses of national survey data sets that address complex regulatory issues.
* Review, summarize and interpret published literature to support FDA and external scientific engagement.
* Share key learnings from research studies conducted and aid in the strategic interpretation of data. Make recommendations based on research findings.
* Write research summaries and draw from multiple sources to write scientific content for regulatory submissions.

Specific Skills


* An advanced degree in Behavioral Science, Psychology, Epidemiology, Consumer/Applied Research or related fields. Ph.D. preferred.
* 3 to 5 years of relevant work experience (Background in consumer package goods, FDA regulatory environment and/or public health a plus).
* Proficient in statistical software for data analysis.
* Strong analytical capabilities and critical thinking.
* Strong oral and written communications skills and the ability to summarize analyses in Microsoft Office (e.g., PowerPoint).
* Strong understanding of behavioral research, including survey design, methodology strengths and limitations, and how to best address regulatory questions.
* Experienced in writing and editing scientific text and an ability to simplify complex scientific information into concise communications.
* Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects in a rapidly changing environment.
* Must thrive in a deadline-driven environment.
