Job Description

Responsible for the identification, development and commercialization of novel genes related to agronomic traits in tobacco. Primary research focus will be in the development and implementation of bioinformatics and molecular biology platforms to support the commercialization of tobacco varieties and hybrids having improved agronomic traits. Supervise 3 lab technicians, 1 scientist and 1 computer programmer.

Requirements

Ph.D. degree in Biology, Bioinformatics, Genetics, Molecular breeding or closely related discipline. Must have three (3) years of experience conducting research in the field of bioinformatics or closely related field. Experience must include: utilizing principles of bioinformatics, population genetics and biotechnology techniques; working on tobacco genetics including genomic platform development; using high throughput molecular markers development and molecular biology laboratory techniques; leading procurement, setup and operations of automated robotic platforms and instrumentation including LGC SNPLine; demonstrating project management skills across Internal and external organizations, including supervising or directing other working members or teams; programming with scripting languages Perl, Python and R; developing and implementing workflows in high performance cluster or cloud computing environments; delivering results while working with complex it environments with compliance and regulatory requirements; using principles of field/greenhouse experimental design and statistical analysis; and, designing experiments, and analyzing and interpreting next generation sequencing, and population genomics using advanced statistical methods including Bayesian and maximum likelihood.
