We are currently seeking a State Tax Analyst to join our Corporate Tax Department at Altria Client Services Group in the Richmond, VA area! You will be responsible for ensuring the highest degree of accuracy, timeliness, and accountability while preparing the state tax returns and assisting with state tax audits and accounting.

In this role, you will:

• Prepare state and local separate, combined, and consolidated income and franchise tax returns, including multistate apportionment.
• Prepare quarterly estimated tax payments and annual tax extensions based on forecast.
• Support state tax audits, including responses to inquiries and correspondence from various tax jurisdictions.
• Prepare quarterly and annual tax accounting entries; track and handle state tax payments and accruals.
• Assist federal and indirect tax teams as needed.

We want you to have:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, required.
• Professional designation (CPA or MST), preferred.
• A minimum of two years of experience with a proven track record of contribution and accomplishment in the field of taxation; state tax experience preferred but not required.
• Validated knowledge of current tax law and regulations.
• Analytical skills: used to improve processes, data collection, and analysis.
• Social skills: share analysis results via written memoranda and oral presentations.
• Possess the agility to adapt quickly to shifting priorities.
• Comfortable working independently as well as in teams.
• Ability to meet deadlines, conduct research, and report information.
• Able to efficiently balance multiple assignments and/or projects simultaneously, often under strict deadlines.
• Occasional travel and overtime during peak periods.
